
Gregory Eckel, MD, Radiologist
Dr. Gregory Eckel, one of Southern California’s leading breast radiologists.
Dr. Eckel joined the faculty of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2004, and currently serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at the University. A fellowship trained expert in breast imaging and Chief of Breast Intervention, he runs the Breast Diagnostic Center at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and, as an Attending Radiologist and educator, is responsible for training resident physicians and fellows in breast, bone and abdominal radiology, as well as image-guided intervention.
Dr. Eckel has co-authored several publications in the field of radiology, including the acclaimed Clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 3rd edition. He has lectured internationally on numerous occasions, and serves as a consultant for BARD (a leading breast biopsy device manufacturer).
A dedicated philanthropist, Dr. Eckel lends his expertise to the Cancer Societies of Trinidad & Tobago and Barbados. He has also worked extensively with AMAZON WATCH, the renowned rainforest advocacy group that spearheads a humanitarian effort to help treat indigenous people of the Ecuadorean Amazon who have been afflicted with petroleum-induced malignancies.
Certified by the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Eckel holds a Bachelor’s degree with Honors from Boston University, where he also attended medical school. He completed his radiology residency at the U.C. Davis School of Medicine. He also served a one-year fellowship in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with the pioneering musculoskeletal radiologist Dr. John Crues. Dr. Eckel is a member of the Society of Breast Imaging, The American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America.
